The WSIB operates in a hybrid work environment and this position should anticipate 60% of their time in the Olympia office.

The WSIB is seeking a qualified candidate to join our Investment and Financial Services team as an Investment Accountant. This role assists in ensuring effective and efficient operations of the unit, including; daily cashflow processing in our private market portfolios, cashflow oversight, and monthly and quarterly reconciliations between several complex investment accounting support systems. This position supports the agency’s mission to invest with integrity, prudence, and skill to meet the financial objectives of those we serve and the investment division by ensuring that the investment portfolio is accounted for in compliance with state law and governmental accounting standards.  

DUTIES

IF SELECTED FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY, YOU WILL:

  • Review and maintain all partner capital call and distribution notices while monitoring cash activity at our custodial bank in the private market accounts. 
  • Accurately enter accounting transactions after validating our private market service providers letter of direction to each partner notice. In addition, review entries completed via the automated upload system and verify for accuracy.
  • Validate monthly alternative asset valuation reports prepared by our private market service provider to ensure accuracy of valuations. Reconcile all activity used to compute the ending market value for each partner to our supporting documentation and internal systems. 
  • Validate and monitor trading activity in the private equity stock distribution portfolio. Verify sells of the securities according to contractual terms.
  • Proactively manage the portfolio administration group mailbox. Escalate urgent items to senior accountants or managers and distribute tasks to team members and other internal teams.
  • Serve as backup for securities litigation filing processes. Responsible for ticket entry into the shadow accounting system when litigation cash is received.

QUALIFICATIONS

COMPETITIVE APPLICANTS WILL HAVE:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • Two years’ experience in accounting, investment accounting, or closely related field.

THE STRONGEST APPLICANT WILL HAVE:

  • Full understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, regulations, guidelines, and standards pertaining to investment accounting. 
  • Certified Public Accountant designation.
  • Knowledge of regulations, guidelines, and standards pertaining to investment accounting and state accounting requirements. 
  • Knowledge of custodial bank procedures and investment accounting service provider capabilities and operations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across all levels within the WSIB and external stakeholders.  Excellent customer service skills to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proactive project / time management - Able to prioritize competing deadlines. Complete and deliver projects from concept to conclusion.
  • Computer Skills – Intermediate to advanced Excel skills. Experience with complex financial processing systems and trade settlement platforms.
